Liverpool FC have hijacked a £35 million move for the 22 year-old winger, beating Newcastle United to the signature of Osasuna forward Victor Muñoz.

- 22 years old
- 5’7″
- Right-footed
- Can play on either wing and as a second striker
From La Masia to Real Madrid
Muñoz began his career at La Masia but left FC Barcelona at the age of 14 to join fellow Catalonian football side CF Damm. After four years at the academy, he joined the Real Madrid youth team and progressed to the senior team for the 2023-2024 season.
The winger struggled to break into the first-team however, and made his senior debut after almost two seasons, in a 4-3 defeat by FC Barcelona. He was sold to C.A Osasuna at the beginning of last season in a deal worth £4,300,000, in which Real Madrid would receive 50% of a future sale.
Muñoz has impressed in his debut season, scoring six goals and grabbing two assists. He has mainly played on the left-wing, but has also featured on the right-wing and at both centre-forward and second-striker. Out of his 34 appearances, 31 have been starts and 3 have been substitute appearances.
He has featured on the international stage, scoring a goal on his debut during a 3-0 friendly win against Serbia back in March. He is part of the Spain squad for this summer’s World Cup.
How did the deal happen?
According to reports in Spain, Muñoz was set to join Newcastle United, who have been in the market to replace Anthony Gordon after his move to FC Barcelona.
However, it appears that Liverpool hijacked negotiations, and have now agreed both personal terms and the activation of Muñoz’s release clause, which stands at £35 million.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Spaniard will be moving to Anfield instead of St James’ Park. Newcastle United will be furious with the deal, having missed out on Ekitike last season after Isak’s drawn out transfer saga.
What are his strengths?
First and foremost, Muñoz is a strong and direct dribbler. According to Sofascore, he recorded the 6th most successful dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga last season, ranking above players such as Kubo, Bellingham and Pedri.
Kognia reports that he possesses impressive physical attributes, which see him score highly in acceleration, sprinting at intensity and top speed.
Because of his pace, Muñoz likes to drive at defenders and run in behind, making him a key part of counter attacks and transitions.
He is not afraid to shoot, letting off 2.4 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. Although he has netted six goals, with two coming from outside the box, his conversion rate remains low at just 7%.
He also showcases a strong work-rate according to Sofascore, having recorded 0.6 possession won and 2.8 recoveries per 90 minutes last season.
Another strength that the Spaniard possesses is his versatility. Muñoz can play across the front three, as shown by the amount of matches he has played in different positions this season:

This makes his an incredibly useful asset in attack, because he is almost equally comfortable playing on either the left or the right hand side of a front three.
Wherever he plays, Liverpool will hope that he can revive a flat and uninspired forward line!
